Heavy heart.

I am sad to say the person who introduced me to this awesome breed of dog passed away this week. Losing her 10 year battle at the age of 44 to breast cancer. She always told me their was no breed like this and the personality was worth the money. After two years of looking I decided to buy one. Now my Charlie is a year old and I have to say he is the best dog I have ever had. So loving it is almost annoying and now has hit a stage where he is protective of me. Who would have thought something… Continue

Bailey is now a therapy dog!

Bailey passed the TDI test in June and now goes to our local library weekly and to an assisted living center monthly.  The elderly patients did not want to put her down!  It warms my heart to watch the joy in their faces as they tell me about dogs they once owned.  This is a great program.… Continue

First Grooming Session

Gizmo had his first grooming session yesterday.  I was so nervous and apprehensive about it.  I just wanted it to be a good experience for him.  I didn't want him to be scared of the blow dryer, razor, being caged in a room with other dogs, and being handled by "strangers".

Apparently, he had none of my fears!  We arrived and was greeted by a big boxer mix (?) that was behind a gate in the grooming room.  He was very friendly and Gizmo wanted to play ... BAD!  The groomer…

Spray Bottle for Correction

Is a spray bottle of water a good thing to use to correct inappropriate behavior in a puppy?  He likes to bite to get our attention even when we are not playing.  Will the spray bottle cure it or make it worse?

Gizmo Growing Up!

Gizmo is growing up .... literally!  He is so tall that he was able to put his paws up on his doggie gate and escape!  We thought the grandkids let him out, but it happened twice when they were not here.  So, off to the pet store - AGAIN!  We got a tall one this time.  He can also put his cute little puppy face on the snack tray and end table.

He took his first all-the-way-around-the-block walk yesterday and then again today - without the training collar.  He's doing very…

An attempt to socialize Buddy becomes a sidewalk - traffic jam.

So yesterday we took 8 month old "Buddy" to the "city" for the first time.  Saugatuck, MI. is an artist-tourist-lakeshore, seasonal kind of place. We avoid it in the Summer because there seem to be too many Chicago-Detroit tourists who don't know how to drive, park, or be considerate of others.  A lot of T-shirts and fudge are sold each day and many of these people walk dogs that are not very well trained - like their masters. …

Meet Tanner, our new addition!

Tanner joined our family one week ago and already has brought so much joy into our lives! He is so cute I want to snuggle with him all the time but as far as puppies go, that only lasts a short while since he has other things he thinks he needs to explore.

We have owned Golden Retrievers in the past and still have Kaylee our red golden who is…

Giving thanks... or Thanksgiving as our Humans call it.

Well, so it's been a few days since I had the chance to tell you about our beautiful vacation in the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada, which is where Daddy and I were born and where Mommy chose to live a few years back.

After that, a whirlwind of events happened, amongst them the fact that Mommy got so worried about a bump on my head that she stayed home from work and took me to the Vet's office. First, Mommy thought that a tick puppy had bit me and gotten inside my skin…

Bathing Time ??

How often should a puppy be bathed?  I gave Gizmo a bath the day after we brought him home last week.  He is 10 weeks old.  He goes outside and sits in the grass and comes in with very wet/dirty paws and chin.  Then he smells like a puppy after being outside.  We will have him groomed at some point.  Which brings up another question ... how old should he be before taking him to a groomer?  I don't want to traumatize him if he's too young.

Thanks for your help.

I adopted a 18 month old goldendoodle from an ad online.  He is beautiful and sweet BUT he has bad seperation anxiety and he easily gets out of control.  He does not recognise me as alpha.  I have had dogs, goldens and poodles all my life and have never had one that is this out of control.  Can anyone help?

Gizmo! Are tails supposed to be curly?????

We have had our puppy for one week now.  He is 10 weeks old.  Gizmo was quite shy at first, but had adjusted very well.  He found his voice a day or so ago.  Now he "argues" with me when I scold him and barks at his toys when they just lay there.

Gizmo has made great progress in just one week.  His accomplishments:  sit on command, knows to go to door to potty - no sounds, just goes to the door, knows command "go in the house" when we are done outside, has learned to climb…

HELP!!!  Just wondering if  this is normal?  My goldendoodle Buddy is 17 months.  and he seems to be  regressing.  We have alot of land that Buddy can run.  But when we call him he looks the other way. acts like he dont hear us.  he wants us to chase him.  we do have play time he does get plenty of  attention.  we play fetch and tug  and he gets alot of love throuh out the day.  He seems to be doing things that he knows he is not suppose to.   any advice would be helpful.

Boys are in BIG trouble!!!

Earlier this evening, as I was getting ready to leave the house WITH the dogs, instead of running to the car like they always do, they fired up the street like they were chasing something,I hopped into my Jeep to find them, and I found them in about 5 or 6 minutes, but they covered a LOT of ground in that time frame. They were both very winded, and jumped right into the Jeep without incident. I now have two Goldendoodles laying here,BOTH of them with torn pads on their front feet. Seamus wore…
