RECAP: *Piper's ears always smelled yeasty...but, she has never had an ear infection. *noticed her chewing at her bum, base of the bottom of tail, and 2 spots on each side of her hind quarters...hair in all these areas turned reddish from the licking/chewing. *started licking/chewing at paws...hair in that area also turned reddish from all the licking. *thinking it was a food allergy, we tried many different brands of dry dog food/kibble with each containing a different protein source…

Piper has always had a strange smell to her ears...not a gross smell, but always kind of yeasty smelling. when we first got piper, we feed her Costco's kirkland dry dog food...after several months, we switched to costco's kirkland nature's domain grain free... also tried some other good quality brands of grain free dry dog food as well, because she was doing a lot of scratching at her bottom & at the base of her tail. None of the grain free foods changed her itching or yeasty smelling…

I saw an older post on this site that mentioned "The Missing Link" supplement...did some research, and ordered Missing Link Well Blend * Food Sensitive * Skin Coat & More * Balanced Omega 3 & 6 Plus Probiotics. Would like to hear anyone's experience with The Missing Link products. I have read many reviews & all are very positive. I mix it with Piper's dry food (Kirkland's Nature's Domain Grain Free Salmon & Sweet Potato)...add a little warm water, stir & she gobbles it…

Happy Birthday Lorie! How's that cute Piper doing?
Thanks so much Lorie. I'm definitely going to try your suggestion. We already order from Chewy.com so that part will be easy. I read in one of your posts from a couple of years ago that Piper had a funny smell to her ears and that she was doing a lot of scratching at her bottom and at the base of her tail. Bishop has the same thing so I'm excited to see if this helps him more than the coconut oil:)
Are there any fires near you? It is so sad and scary!!
Our weather just took a turn too but not quite as hot yours. 60's and rainy to 90s this past weekend. Picco heated up on yesterday's morning hike so I'm thinking his short cut could be shorter!
Just terrible and my heart breaks for all the people who lost so much. I'm sorry to hear that any of your land burned, but happy that the people and animals are okay. Your neighbor's horse just makes me so sad. I really hope we are done with the fires now!!!
Are you guys having any fire issues down your way?? Thick smoke all over our area! I feel so sorry for all those folks to the west...so many have lost their homes.
I know how busy 4 kids can keep you...and once they are completely on their own it becomes the grandkids! ;) How funny that our weather forecaster is also yours! You must live to the south of us? (I'm thinking this because of how you travel to get here.) Thanks for thinking my Trixie is cute...she will endure any humiliating outfit for the right tasty treat! Loves her goodies that girl! :) No worries...post some photos whenever your schedule (and kids!) allow!!
Lorie, where do you live? How lucky to have such a versatile vet. We've always been lucky with rural vets. Welcome to this fun and helpful community. Good for you jumping right into the discussion with good information. Post some pictures of your doodle and his friends!
Hi Lorie! Welcome! Post some pictures of your Doodle AND your Yorkie when you can! Would love to see them! :)
