Millie was 6 months old on Thursday and poor pooch got spayed on Thursday (I felt so awful getting it done to her) but suppose it was necessary.  She is recovering well.   The training has finished now - still not the perfect pooch but getting there.  She is scared of traffic and jumps at cars as they pass - was told my reaction to this may not be helping as I am "up tight" when cars pass .  I have to keep such a tight hold of her leash as she is getting really strong and if I was not…

leash training

Can anyone advise me as to the best way to train Millie not to pull on leash.  She is 4months old now and sometimes she pulls quite a bit.  Have got a trainer helping me -the method she told me to use is going to be very slow to master (I think)     The method I am using is to hold my clenched first (with a treat in it) and put it in front of her nose while holding her lead with my left hand and taking a step with her leash loose - started with one step and have to try and lead up to 300… Continue

Goldendoodles and exercise

Posted on May 4, 2011 at 4:35am 20 Comments

I have a 8 week old Goldendoodle called "Millie".  I took her to the vets yesterday for her first inoculaton.  I was discussing a few matters with my Vet - the most important being how much exercise she should have as puppy. (I believe G.D's can get hip dyplasia)  I read that you should not exercise a G.D. too much as there bones are soft etc etc.  My Vet said to me that that was not the case and exercise was good for them as the more…

Wow could ever get upset with such an adorable baby.

I won't be getting mine for a year or so. Life is a little complicated right now. I know it will be best to have lots of times to keep up with these little guys. Unless I can get an other one.

Your's is so cute.

I am wondering if Goldendoodles shed more than Labradoodles? I still prefer the fleece coat rather than the wool even if they do.

It is so very nice to be in communication with you Christine, we are having a fairly warm summer here in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, the humidity has been pretty high at times. I really didn't want to clip Charlie at all but it seemed necessary weather wise. I think in the fall I may take him in for just his face, head and ears clip. Is Millies fur fairly wavy or quite curly, it appears she is wavy like Charlie which is certainly easier to care for I believe. I am looking for a good brush right now. I have a comb and a wire brush which fluffs him, but I would like one that provides more of a massage as I brush out his tangles.

Wow Christine, Millie and Charlie look very much alike, 4 months apart in age. Yes we have had Charlie clipped, once, at 6 months old, mainly because of the heat here in the summer. Did you see my bog response regarding grooming our doodles? This is a wonderful tool, with specific instructions to ensure our goldendoodles have the proper doodle do :)  You can print off and customize the instructions for your groomer at the following site:
