A great water toy for your Golden Doodle, if he/she enjoys retrieving things is an empty container of folgers coffee. If you swim yourself take the plastic can out from the shore yourself and fill it…Continue

Good Luck! Started canoeing when I was five. Still canoe! The Mutt makes it a little unstable but who cares! Water is water and a happy dog is a wet dog!

It would be interesting to try it. I'll have to make sure it is a hot day because i am pretty sure I will end up in the water

Yes she does like the canoe. Balance may be a problem if the dog swings from side to side or lunges after something that catches the fancy for a moment. Much depends on the size. Zoey is 72 pounds. Smaller dogs do not upset the cart...so to speak.

If you could see some of the "logs" that Nug and Puk have fetched out of ponds you would laugh. The problem is me, I can't through some of the objects that they bring to me. They really are fun to be around. Does Zoey go in the canoe with you? That is something my husband and I have wanted to try with ours.

Nothing wrong with sticks. I used a soft frisbee to start training. It doesn't hurt them if they miss. Sticks are free and are great fun. In fact, as they strengthen their muscles for carrying objects you can graduate to much heavier sticks.

Thank you for your reply!

Mine have never really gotten into frisbees, but I might try a soft one to see if they like that. Sticks seem to be their favorite toy to chase

Frisbee Choices

Hard plastic can develop rough spots on the rims and may cut the mouth of the dog during a catch. Keep in mind the frisbee rotates as it flies and it acts like a power saw (on a much slower rotation speed)

The cloth frisbees are good for soft touch on the mouth on a catch. Unfortunately, if you don't monitor their activity, they may begin to chew up the frisbee. They are expensive.

Another possibility is a rubber frisbee. The good ones are virtually indestructible and, if you like frisbee, you can really get excellent distance and, therefore, more exercise for your doodle. They are heavy and may require more strength to throw but the doodles like it no matter how far or accurate your throw.

To make matters worse our canoe was half full of water and I elected, yesterday, to bail it out. Unfortunately the lake level in Lake Keowee was at a very high level. I went swimming again!! tipped the canoe over and emptied it out over the shore. Zoey really likes her water games. She wets you down whatever way she can.

Just a little update. Been busy on Twitter about diabetes. Awareness is very important. Didn't mean to ignore all my Golden Doodle friends. Zoey and I had a good time at a Fundraiser involving a Polar Swim a few days ago. The funds go to a home for abused women. They have needs for financial and emotional help. Worthy cause and many literally "jumped in" for support. Zoey and I enjoyed the short swim and a chance to play a little water frisbee.
